IMPHAL, April 2: Security forces in Manipur have intensified their vigil across the state, launching a series of operations and arresting five individuals in separate incidents.
One active cadre of the proscribed group People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK-Pro) was arrested on April 1 for involvement in extortion activities targeting various institutes in and around Wangoo Chairel and Pangaltabi areas of Kakching district. The arrested individual, identified as Moirangthem Roshan Singh (40) of Chairel Awang Leikai, Kakching district, was apprehended from Aihang Village near a waiting shed. Security forces seized one mobile phone from his possession.

In another operation, security forces arrested one individual in possession of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL). The accused, Jamminthang Haokip (28) of Canan Veng, Moreh Ward No. VII, was arrested at Tengnoupal Naka Check Post in Tengnoupal. Authorities confiscated three boxes containing 72 half-litre plastic bottles of IMFL from his possession.
Meanwhile, on the same day, police personnel arrested an administrator of a Facebook page for allegedly spreading fake news with communally sensitive content that could disturb public peace and tranquility. The accused was identified as Seram Suraj Meetei (25) of Wangoo Terakhong Awang Leikai, Bishnupur district.

Additionally, in an operation launched on March 31, Manipur police arrested two individuals—Wahengbam Binanta Singh (45) and Hijam Gogoba Singh (44)—both residents of Imphal East district. The duo was apprehended for allegedly facilitating underground organizations in extortion activities targeting transport vehicles in the Sekmai area of Imphal West district. Security forces seized a mobile handset and a four-wheeler from their possession.
During search operations and area domination exercises in Imphal West district, security personnel also seized various items, including magazines, ammunition, blank cartridges, tear smoke shells, grenades, a bulletproof vest, a camouflage helmet, and a BAOFENG handheld radio set.
Authorities have stated that these operations are part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal activities and maintain law and order in the state.
