Imphal, August 14: In a sweeping two-day operation across Manipur, security forces and police units intensified their campaign against illicit liquor trade, narcotics smuggling, extortion networks, and insurgent activities, leading to multiple arrests and significant seizures.
On August 13, Manipur Police seized 258 litres of DIC liquor from various locations in Imphal East district, detaining 24 people involved in the illegal trade. In Thoubal district, police arrested Sangomsungbam Nasir Khan, 29, from Khekman Amakcham and recovered 500 grams of brown sugar from his residence.

In a separate joint operation, Manipur Police and Assam Rifles apprehended Sharangthem Sanatomba Singh, 41, alias Amuthoi — an active KCP (PWG) member — from Nungaipokpi Maning Leikai, Imphal East. Authorities said he was involved in multiple crimes, including extortion, threats, illegal settlements of crimes against women, and running money-lending rackets.
Two alleged extortionists, Paominthang Kipgen, 32, and Seigoulal Kipgen, 33, were also arrested from Keithelmanbi Vengpi in Kangpokpi district, while a 12-bore single-barrel rifle and a Pompi were recovered from a forest near the Singda River.

On August 12, two active cadres of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) — Sinam Borish Singh, 22, and Ningthoujam Meiraba Singh, 24 — were nabbed near Indo-Myanmar Border Pillar No. 85 in Tengnoupal district. The same day, three KCP (PWG) members — Pechimayum Bidyarani Devi, 45, Khomdram Asha Devi, 42, and Thokchom Jiban Singh alias Taton, 51 — were arrested from Wabagai Lamkhai in Kakching district for extorting money from locals. Four mobile phones were seized from them.
Authorities said the coordinated operations are part of an ongoing effort to curb crime, dismantle insurgent networks, and improve law and order in the state.
