IMPHAL, July 8: In a coordinated series of operations over the past 24 hours, Manipur Police and central security forces arrested three individuals allegedly linked to banned insurgent groups operating in the state. The arrests are part of a broader effort to dismantle extortion and logistical support networks of proscribed outfits.
In the first operation, an active cadre of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), identified as Thokchom Wilson Singh alias BK (26), was apprehended from Bamon Kampu Mayai Leikai under Irilbung Police Station, Imphal East. He was allegedly involved in collecting extortion money from shops and retailers in Canchipur, Mantripukhri, and Kakwa. Police recovered a mobile phone from his possession.

Another operation was launched at Lamphel Grace Colony under Lamphel Police Station, Imphal West, leading to the arrest of Huiningsungbam George Bush Meitei alias Lalloiba (18), an active member of the Kangleipak Communist Party – People’s War Group (KCP-PWG). He too was involved in extortion-related activities. A mobile handset, iPad Air, and an Aadhaar card were seized from him.

Further investigation into the operations of PREPAK revealed a crucial logistical link — Khumanthem Bikramjit Singh (43), a resident of Thoubal district, was arrested for allegedly supplying SIM cards to underground groups, including PREPAK (PRO). These SIM cards, police said, were being used by insurgents based in Myanmar to carry out extortion from across the border. From his possession, police recovered a Realme mobile phone, two active SIM cards, and over 100 additional SIM cards from various telecom providers.
