Manipur: Security Forces Rescued Abducted Man, Four Militants Arrested

IMPHAL, April 5: In a series of coordinated operations, security forces in Manipur arrested four militants belonging to proscribed outfits and successfully rescued an abducted individual. The operations, carried out on April 4, spanned across Bishnupur, Thoubal, and Imphal East districts.

In Bishnupur district, two members of the banned United National Liberation Front (Pambei) — Khundrakpam Rakesh Singh (30) and Khundrakpam Charles (25), both residents of Nambol Phoijing Awang Leikai — were arrested from the residence of one Khundrakpam Inaoton Singh.

The arrests followed a cordon and search operation based on information regarding the abduction of Laitonjam Dilip Singh (47), a resident of Patsoi Part-4 in Imphal West district. He was reportedly kidnapped from his residence by unidentified individuals using a white Bolero vehicle.

During the operation, security forces successfully rescued the abducted individual and recovered several items from the arrested UNLF(P) cadres. These included the white Bolero used in the abduction, three mobile handsets, a wallet containing Rs 4,500, and a voter ID card.

In a separate operation in Thoubal district on the same day, an active cadre of the Kangleipal Communist Party (PWG), identified as Ahongsangbam Naobi Singh (42) of Khongjom Kheba Ching, was apprehended for his involvement in extortion activities in the Khongjom area. Items seized from his possession included a pistol with magazines and live rounds, a mobile phone with two SIM cards, and a two-wheeler.

Following up on this operation, security forces also arrested another active KCP (PWG) cadre, Maibam Tomba Singh (42) of Tentha Khunjao, Thoubal, from his residence at Khurai Kongpal Laishram Leikai in Imphal East. From him, security personnel recovered pistols with magazines and live rounds, along with two mobile phones and two SIM cards.
