NEW DELHI, Mar 1: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday reviewed the security situation in ethnic strife-torn Manipur and directed authorities to ensure free movement of the public across the state from March 8, 2025. This was the first security review meeting since the imposition of President’s Rule in the northeastern state following the resignation of N. Biren Singh from the chief ministerial position.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has also emphasized the need for strict action against anyone obstructing efforts to restore peace and security in Manipur.
“Union Home Minister Amit Shah today chaired a high-level review meeting on the security situation in Manipur in New Delhi. In the meeting, the Home Minister directed that from March 8, 2025, free movement of the public should be ensured on all routes in Manipur, and strict action should be taken against those creating obstructions,” the MHA stated.
President’s Rule was imposed in the state on February 13, 2025, following CM N. Biren Singh’s resignation, leaving the state assembly whose tenure extends until 2027 under suspension.
