Imphal, Sept 23:   A Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Manipur Police has arrested a senior manager and three staff members from the Bank of Baroda’s Manipur University branch in connection with the disappearance of gold valued at approximately Rs 4 crore.

The arrests followed a complaint lodged by Ganga Ningomba, the senior manager of the bank, at Singjamei police station on September 17, 2024. According to Ganga, the lock of the case vault in the bank’s strong room was found broken. The discovery was made when the cashier accessed the vault for routine duties around 10 am and noticed several gold packets were missing.

Upon reviewing the bank’s CCTV footage, two individuals were seen inside the branch manager’s chamber at around 1:41 pm on September 12, 2024. However, further investigation of the footage was hindered as the CCTV cameras were found to be in “dark mode,” rendering them unusable.
