IMPHAL, April 12: In a major coordinated crackdown, Manipur Police and security forces arrested seven active cadres linked to various proscribed insurgent outfits during operations conducted on April 11 across Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, and Kangpokpi districts. The arrested individuals were affiliated with banned groups including PREPAK (Pro), KCP (Noyon), KYKL, KYKL (SOREPA), and KCP (PWG), all known for their involvement in insurgency-related activities in the state.
Among those arrested was Angom Surjit Singh, 34, of PREPAK (Pro) from Phayeng Sabal Leikai in Imphal West. Huidrom Sunder Singh, 39, associated with KCP (Noyon), was apprehended from Checkon in Imphal East and is believed to have been involved in arms transportation and extortion. A notable arrest was that of Leichombam Pakpi Devi, 37, a female cadre of KYKL (SOREPA) from Leimaram, who was reportedly active in both extortion and recruitment activities.
Other detainees include Moirangthem Suranjoy Meitei, 31, of KYKL from Lamlong Bazar in Imphal East; Mangsidam Wanglen Singh, 22, of KCP (PWG) from Lei Ingkhol, who was caught with nine demand letters; Md. Ashadon, 22, of KCP (PWG) from Urup Awang Leikai; and Hensonpiek Vaiphei, 23, who was nabbed while allegedly extorting a truck driver on NH-2 near Kangpokpi.
Authorities recovered several mobile phones, demand letters, and other personal items during the raids. Officials confirmed that the arrested individuals were actively involved in extortion, arms movement, and militant recruitment.
