Imphal, July 18: Manipur is set to host a grand and inclusive celebration of World Indigenous Day 2025 on August 9 at the City Convention Centre, Imphal, bringing together cultural delegations and representatives from all Seven Northeastern states. The event is being organised by the Indigenous People’s Forum, Manipur (IPFM) under the aegis of the North East Indigenous People’s Forum (NEIPF), and will be held under the theme “Defending Rights, Shaping Futures.”
Announcing the event during a press conference at the Manipur Press Club, IPFM President Ashang Kasar stated that the celebration aims to honour the rich traditions, heritage, and identities of the region’s indigenous communities.
Prominent personalities, special guests, and cultural troupes from across the North East are expected to attend and take part in a series of vibrant performances including folk songs, traditional dances, and other cultural displays.
Kasar also made an appeal to the general public, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders to refrain from calling any bandhs, strikes, or protests on the day to ensure an uninterrupted and successful observance of the occasion. “Let’s join hands to make World Indigenous Day 2025 a resounding success,” he urged.
