IMPHAL, Jan 31: Manipur Police have arrested two individuals suspected of involvement in extortion activities in Imphal West. The arrests were made during an anti-extortion operation in the Sagolband Tera area, based on local complaints.
The suspects, identified as Yumlembam Khelen Singh, 40, and Huidrom Langambam Singh, 30, are believed to be active members of the Volunteers Welfare Fund organization, which operates an extortion network throughout the Imphal area. Police recovered two mobile phones, a lock and key, and a demand note from the suspects during their arrests.
In a separate operation on the same day, security forces conducting searches in the Kakching District discovered a significant weapons cache in the foothills of Chairel Khunou Hill. The seized items included an assault rifle, a 5 kg improvised explosive device, multiple grenades, tactical equipment, a 9mm pistol with an empty magazine, smoke shells, tear gas grenades, and military gear such as a bulletproof vest and helmet. This operation is part of ongoing security measures aimed at addressing concerns across both the hill and valley districts of Manipur.
