IMPHAL, Feb 7: In a significant drug bust, Assam Rifles, assisted by the police, apprehended a suspected international drug smuggler at Moreh Gate No. 1 in Manipur on Thursday. The accused was found in possession of World is Your (WIY) tablets, a highly illegal drug manufactured in Myanmar, with an estimated value of over Rs 2 crore in the international black market.
The arrested individual, identified as Zamkholun Baite (40), a resident of Songdo village, Churachandpur Sub-Division in Churachandpur District, was apprehended en route to Myanmar. He was caught at the Assam Rifles checkpost under Moreh-PS in Tengnoupal District.
Authorities recovered seven packets of WIY tablets, weighing approximately 1.5 kg, from Baite’s possession. Additionally, a mobile phone and a four-wheeler were seized. The suspect was later handed over to the Moreh Police Station, along with the seized items, for further investigation.
This operation followed a series of search operations conducted by a combined team of Assam Rifles and Manipur police in various localities of the Moreh border town the previous day. As part of these operations, 113 residents from 48 households, including 45 females, were verified individually, with their citizenship IDs checked. After the verification process, all individuals were released.
