Imphal, September 24: The Government of India has appointed Ms. Gloria Gangte, a senior Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer of the 2000 batch, as the country’s next Ambassador to the Kingdom of Norway.
Currently serving as India’s High Commissioner to Malta, Gangte has over two decades of diplomatic experience, having represented India in multiple countries and handled key bilateral and multilateral issues. Her posting to Norway is expected to strengthen India’s engagement with the Nordic region in areas such as trade, renewable energy, technology collaboration, and cultural exchange.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that Ms. Gangte will assume her new assignment in Oslo shortly. Her appointment marks a significant milestone for the northeastern state of Manipur, highlighting the growing representation of northeastern officers in India’s diplomatic service.
Following the announcement, former Chief Minister of Manipur N Biren Singh took to his social media and congratulated her. “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Ms. Gloria Gangte on her appointment as the next Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Norway. A 2000 batch IFS officer, Ms. Gangte has served the nation with distinction, most recently as India’s High Commissioner to Malta. I wish her continued success in this prestigious assignment and in her service to the nation,” the post read.
