Kohima, October 9: The Mao Students’ Union (MSU) secured a dramatic 3–2 victory over New Market FC (NMFC) to book their spot in the quarterfinals of the 25th NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy, on October 8 held at the Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima.
NMFC took an early lead with goals from Letkokia Kuki (17th minute) and Haoneo Kuki (38th minute), but MSU staged an inspiring comeback. Lohrü Kaisü (No. 23) struck twice — in first-half stoppage time (45+3 min) and the 87th minute — to level the score, before W. John (No. 7) sealed the win with a decisive goal in the 90th minute.
W. John was named Player of the Match for his stellar performance, and the award was presented by Neikhozo Suokhrie, Chairman of the Kohima Municipal Council, who graced the match as Patron.
