Imphal, October 4: In a decisive move against child abuse in educational institutions, the Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) has summoned the principal and a teacher of Catholic School, Canchipur over an incident of corporal punishment inflicted on a pre-primary student.
The case came to public attention after a video clip of the punishment went viral on social media, drawing widespread outrage and raising serious concerns about the safety and well-being of young children in schools.
Acting suo motu, the MCPCR has directed both the principal and the teacher to appear before the Commission at its office on the 3rd floor of the Directorate of Social Welfare building on October 9 at 1:00 PM. They have been instructed to submit a detailed explanation of the incident and present their statements.
The Commission reiterated that violations of child rights will not be tolerated, emphasising that schools must maintain a safe, nurturing environment where students can learn without fear or abuse.
