NONEY, March 6: Hundreds of participants gathered in Noney District for a Mega Marathon under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan campaign, aiming to promote a drug-free India. The event, held on March 6, was flagged off by Noney SP Peter Namsadai Pamei at Noney Bridge in Longmai Bazar, with the support of the Noney District Administration, District Social Welfare Office, and Noney Police.
The marathon saw enthusiastic participation in both male and female open categories. The female category race started from Longmai Bazar Bridge to Makhuam Part-4 waiting shed on NH-37, ending at Longmai-3 Common Ground. The male race route commenced from Longmai Bazar Bridge to DC Junction on NH-37 and finished at Longmai-3 Common Ground.
In the male category, Gainithui Malangmei secured the first prize, followed by Gaitanthai Gonmei in second place and Rephidim Phaomei in third. For the female category, Kathanduanliu Gonmei took the first prize, with Lungthaoliu Panmei in second and Gaingamliu Kamei in third.
The marathon is part of the nationwide Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, launched by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, in 2020. The campaign aims to spread awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse, especially among youth and children, and promote a drug-free nation.
