SHILLONG, March 25: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma hosted dignitaries from 13 countries and provinces at the 7th Act East Business Show in Shillong, an event aimed at strengthening economic and trade relations between the BBIN (Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal) and ASEAN nations. The business show highlighted key sectors such as technology, agriculture, manufacturing, and tourism, positioning Meghalaya as a crucial economic hub in Northeast India.
In his address, Sangma reiterated the state government’s commitment to achieving a $10 billion economy, emphasizing that investments and partnerships will be instrumental in realizing this vision. He outlined a strategic roadmap focusing on policy reforms, infrastructure development, investment in people, entrepreneurship promotion, and robust grassroots economic networks.
The Chief Minister acknowledged India’s political will in advancing regional development and underscored the North East’s potential in fostering stronger economic ties between BBIN and ASEAN countries. He also stressed the importance of creating designated economic zones that would facilitate structured collaborations between states and international stakeholders, ensuring targeted partnerships that maximize investment opportunities.
Sangma expressed optimism regarding the outcomes of the event, hoping for enhanced trade cooperation and economic growth in the region. The Meghalaya government remains committed to leveraging international partnerships to drive sustainable development and establish the state as a dynamic player in regional commerce.
