Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma Re-Elected as NPP National President for Fourth Consecutive Term

NEW DELHI, March 15: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma was re-elected unopposed as the national president of the National People’s Party (NPP) for the fourth consecutive term on Saturday. The organizational election of the party was held at the Constitutional Club of India in New Delhi. Sangma will serve as president for the tenure spanning from 2025 to 2028.

Sangma, who took over as NPP president in 2016 following the death of his father, the late Purno A. Sangma, has been re-elected to the top post in 2019, 2022, and now in 2025. In addition to his re-election, former cabinet minister and former state working president of Arunachal Pradesh, Paknga Bage, was elected unopposed as General Secretary (Organisation), and Dr. Mehtab Agitok Sangma was re-elected unopposed as national treasurer.

During the election, Meghalaya State President Prestone Tynsong and Manipur State President Joy Kumar Singh proposed appointing James K. Sangma, the outgoing General Secretary (Organisation), as the national working president of the party.

Conrad K. Sangma, upon his re-election, announced that the members of the National Committee for the 2025-28 term would be announced shortly.

The NPP, established at the national level by P.A. Sangma in 2013 after his expulsion from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), became the first party from the North Eastern region to be recognized as a national party by the Election Commission of India in 2019.
