Shillong, October 4: Four people, including three minors, were killed and three others injured after a speeding dumper truck lost control and ran over them in Thadrang village, under Mawlasnai Outpost, on Friday evening, police said.
According to Ri-Bhoi Superintendent of Police Vivekananda Singh Rathore, the truck (registration number ML05-AC-8447) was travelling from Jowai towards Bhoirymbong when it struck five pedestrians at around 6:45 PM. Three of the victims — all teenagers — died on the spot, while a 19-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries on Saturday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Phibanpyntngen Rynjah (13), Lashimti Nongrum (13), Ridahunlang Nongrum (13), and Theresa Nongrum (19), all residents of Thadrang Madan Lyngbah village.
An 11-year-old girl, Iupharisa Nongrum, sustained serious injuries and was shifted from Bhoirymbong CHC to a higher medical centre for treatment. The driver, Ferlindes Rymbai (34) of Laitkor, and his helper, Dwayne Dkhar (31) of Khliehtyrshi, were also seriously hurt when the vehicle capsized after the impact.
All injured individuals were referred to higher medical facilities, while the three bodies were handed over to their families following post-mortem examinations, police said.
