Shillong, October 14 (NNN): Meghalaya has been recognised as the Best Performing State in verification of adult Aadhaar enrolment at the national level.
The award was formally received on behalf of the State by Shai Kupar War, Aadhaar Nodal Officer, GAD(B), during the Aadhaar Samvaad event held to mark the inaugural Aadhaar Day at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC), Kothaguda on September 29.
This prestigious recognition highlights Meghalaya’s commitment to ensuring accurate, timely, and efficient Aadhaar enrolment for all its citizens.
This milestone stems from a reform adopted by Meghalaya in May 2023, under which the State began verifying all new adult Aadhaar enrolment requests linked to Meghalaya, regardless of where they were generated across the country.
Every enrolment packet containing a Meghalaya proof of address is automatically routed to the respective district and sub-district, where it is verified by the designated official through the State Government portal. This system has improved accuracy, strengthened public trust, and greatly reduced the risk of fraud and misuse, thereby creating a safer and more reliable Aadhaar ecosystem for citizens.
The General Administration Department (B) has played a pivotal role in coordinating district-level efforts, monitoring progress, and ensuring seamless execution of the verification process. This citizen-centric approach has positioned Meghalaya as a model state for Aadhaar-related service delivery.
On this occasion, Commissioner & Secretary and State Aadhaar Nodal Officer Dr. Joram Beda congratulated the team, stating, “Meghalaya’s recognition as the Best Performing State is the result of the collective dedication and hard work of our Deputy Commissioners, BDOs, in particular the District Supervisors, and Operators, alongside the seamless coordination by GAD(B). This achievement reflects our deep commitment to inclusive and transparent service delivery. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to the officials of the UIDAI Regional Office for their invaluable guidance, unwavering support, and handholding throughout this journey.”
The state government has extended its gratitude to all officials and field staff whose dedication and coordinated efforts have made this national recognition possible.
