IMPHAL, March 17: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, security agencies have seized methamphetamine tablets valued at ₹88 crore and arrested four members of an international drug cartel in operations conducted in Imphal and Guwahati. The development was announced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday.

Amit Shah lauded the operation, calling it a testament to the government’s comprehensive strategy against drug networks. “No mercy for drug cartels. Accelerating the Modi government’s march towards a drug-free Bharat, a massive consignment of methamphetamine tablets has been seized, and four cartel members arrested,” he posted on X.

According to an official statement, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Imphal intercepted a truck near Lilong on March 13, leading to the recovery of 102.39 kg of methamphetamine tablets concealed within the vehicle’s toolbox. Two individuals were arrested at the scene, while a third suspect, identified as a receiver of the contraband, was later apprehended.

Simultaneously, NCB officers from the Guwahati Zone carried out another operation, intercepting an SUV near the Assam-Mizoram border in Silchar. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 7.48 kg of methamphetamine hidden inside the spare tire, and the occupant was taken into custody.

Authorities believe the drugs were sourced from Moreh, Manipur, and intended for delivery in Karimganj, Assam. The investigation is ongoing to trace other individuals linked to the cartel and to dismantle the network.
