IMPHAL, Nov 16: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Saturday directed all security forces in Manipur to take decisive action to restore peace and order in the violence-hit state. The directive comes as the state continues to grapple with a fragile law and order situation, marked by armed clashes and public unrest.
In a press statement, the MHA highlighted the deteriorating security scenario in Manipur, noting that armed miscreants from both conflicting communities have been engaging in violence, resulting in loss of lives and disruption of public order. The ministry emphasized that all necessary steps should be taken to restore normalcy in the state.
The MHA also warned that strict action would be taken against individuals or groups attempting to incite violence or disrupt public peace. To bolster investigative efforts, key cases related to the ongoing violence have been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for effective inquiry and resolution.
“The public is urged to maintain peace, refrain from believing rumors, and cooperate with the security forces to maintain order,” the Ministry’s statement read.
As part of broader security measures, the Centre reimposed the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) in six police station areas, including the violence-stricken Jiribam. The reactivation of AFSPA follows the previous imposition of the law across the entire state in October 2024, except for 19 police station areas. This legal framework allows security forces to carry out operations without the need for prior government approval and grants them the power to arrest and detain individuals without a warrant.
The latest developments reflect the ongoing challenges in Manipur, where the fragile security situation continues to escalate. As authorities search for more information about the kidnapped individuals and seek to calm tensions, the call for collective efforts to restore peace has never been more urgent.
