Guwahati, July 31: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has categorically rejected calls for a so-called “Miyaland,” stating such a demand will “never come true in India” and sarcastically suggesting that Bangladesh or Afghanistan could be potential destinations instead. His remarks came after the successful completion of a large-scale eviction drive in Uriamghat near the Assam-Nagaland border.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, CM Sarma confirmed that 10,000 additional bighas of land had been cleared during the latest phase of the operation, bringing the total reclaimed land to approximately 1,29,000 bighas — equivalent to over 182 square kilometres. He extended his gratitude to Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and praised the cooperation of Nagaland Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) for ensuring neutrality during the operation in the Disputed Area Belt (DAB).
Taking a direct swipe at alleged demands by infiltrators for a separate territory, Sarma stated, “Their dream will definitely come true — not in India, but in Bangladesh or Afghanistan. And I will personally assist them in settling there.” He added that there is “plenty of land available” in those countries for such ambitions.
The Chief Minister reiterated that the eviction drive was part of a broader campaign to free government and tribal lands across Assam from illegal encroachments, a major focus of his administration. He maintained that the state government’s actions are lawful and aimed at restoring land to its rightful owners.
