AIZAWL, Nov. 5: The Mizoram Football Association (MFA) has taken decisive action against corruption in the Mizo Premier League, announcing the bans of three football clubs, several officials, and 24 players from any football-related activities for a period ranging from one to five years due to involvement in spot-fixing.
In a statement released on Monday, the MFA described the situation as “unfortunate,” revealing that it had uncovered instances of match manipulation in the recently concluded Mizoram Premier League-II through diligent investigations supported by local law enforcement agencies. The association emphasized that such misconduct represents a severe breach of the sport’s integrity and disrespects the passionate fans of Mizoram football.
The MFA has imposed strict penalties on those found involved in these corrupt activities, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of integrity within its competitions. They warned that clubs complicit in these actions would face sanctions impacting their participation in future tournaments, and implicated players and officials would be subject to suspensions and other disciplinary measures deemed appropriate by the MFA.
Additionally, the MFA assured stakeholders that it is taking comprehensive measures to prevent future incidents, including enhancing regulatory frameworks and strengthening monitoring mechanisms to ensure fair competition. They called upon football fans, partners, and the wider football community to support their efforts to restore trust and uphold the values of fair play, passion, and unity in Mizoram football.
The MFA’s statement concluded with a pledge to maintain a clean and transparent sport, emphasizing that collective efforts are essential for building a stronger, more resilient football community in the region.
