AIZAWL, March 15: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday inaugurated the relocation of the Assam Rifles Headquarters from Central Aizawl to Zokhawsang, a significant move that underscores the Indian government’s commitment to the development of Mizoram.

Shah emphasized that this decision was not just an administrative move but a reflection of the government’s responsibility towards the Mizo people, fulfilling a long-standing demand from the Mizo community. The community had been advocating for this relocation for over 35 years due to the region’s challenging topography.

During his address, Shah acknowledged that the relocation is an important step in the history of Aizawl’s development, noting that it will be remembered alongside the establishment of the first military camp in the city in 1890. He further commended the Modi government’s continuous efforts to promote development across various sectors in the Northeast, including tourism, technology, agriculture, and entrepreneurship.
