AIZAWL, Oct 28: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Monday chaired the third online meeting of the High-Level Task Force on the North East Economic Corridor, which focused on strengthening connectivity and promoting economic integration across the region.
During the session, Planning Department Secretary Lalmalsawma Pachuau presented a detailed review of the progress made in previous meetings and outlined key priorities for the corridor’s development.
The discussions emphasized the establishment of connectivity corridors between Bangladesh and the North Eastern states, the enhancement of the India–Myanmar–Thailand transport route, and the development of Guwahati as a central regional hub with improved helicopter services.
Other major areas of focus included expanding inland waterways and rail networks, introducing electric train services to lower travel costs, enhancing digital connectivity, modernizing border trade infrastructure, and promoting effective branding of North Eastern products to boost trade and visibility.
Union Minister for DoNER Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, along with ministers from various member states, attended the meeting. The participants agreed to finalize the Task Force’s comprehensive report in the coming weeks to accelerate implementation of the proposed initiatives.
