AIZAWL, June 26: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Wednesday highlighted the urgent need for improved infrastructure in the Northeast, asserting that enhanced connectivity will significantly bolster cross-border trade with neighbouring Asian countries. His remarks came during an online meeting of the High Level Task Force on the North East Economic Corridor, an initiative of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER).
An official statement from the Chief Minister’s Office said Lalduhoma chaired the virtual meeting and emphasized that Mizoram’s road density is far below the national average. He added that focused attention is needed not just on roadways, but across critical infrastructure sectors to unlock the region’s economic potential.
“Improved infrastructure will not only enhance regional connectivity but also strengthen cross-border trade with Asian countries and generate substantial employment opportunities,” the Chief Minister stated.
The North East Economic Corridor initiative aims to accelerate inclusive growth and integration of the Northeastern region with broader national and international markets.
Lalduhoma also extended his gratitude to Union DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia for his leadership and proactive involvement in promoting development across the region.
The meeting was attended by several key stakeholders including Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Assam Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, Manipur Chief Secretary PK Singh, and MoRTH Secretary V. Umashankar, among others.
