Aizawl, October 15: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Tuesday said the state has rapidly emerged as one of the leading tourist destinations in the Northeast, driven by improved connectivity and sustained efforts to promote its scenic and cultural attractions.
Speaking at the Hnahsin (Cosmos Flower) Festival in Champhai district, the Chief Minister revealed that Mizoram recorded over 5.2 lakh tourist arrivals in 2024, marking an impressive 139.5 percent increase from the previous year. He added that the tourist inflow is expected to grow further following the completion of the Bairabi–Sairang railway line, which connects the state capital Aizawl to India’s national railway network for the first time.
Lalduhoma highlighted that Mizoram’s stunning landscapes, rich heritage, and cultural warmth have made it one of the fastest-growing tourism destinations in the region. He urged residents to continue preserving their land, traditions, and values while showcasing the Mizo spirit of hospitality and friendliness to visitors.
“Mizoram holds immense potential to strengthen its economy through tourism, provided we protect our environment and promote our cultural identity with pride,” the Chief Minister said.
Notably, the Bairabi–Sairang railway project, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 13, is considered one of the most challenging undertakings in Indian Railways history. The 51.4-km rail link now connects Mizoram to the rest of the country through Silchar, Assam, paving the way for enhanced trade, tourism, and development opportunities in the hill state.
