Mizoram: Fuel and Essentials Flow Again as Truckers End Strike

Aizawl, Sept 23:   Fuel and essential supplies have resumed in Mizoram after truckers and oil tankers ended their strike. The strike was triggered by the poor condition of National Highway-306 and National Highway-6, crucial routes connecting Mizoram with Assam and other parts of India.

The strike, led by the Mizoram Oil Tanker Drivers’ Association (MOTDA) and the Petroleum Entrepreneurs’ and Transporters’ Union of Mizoram (PETUM), caused severe shortages of fuel and essentials in the state. The deteriorated roads, especially between Kawnpui and Khamprang in Kolasib district, were deemed unsafe, prompting the halt in operations due to concerns over potential oil spills and safety.

Mizoram’s Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Minister B Lalchhanzova reported that operations resumed on Friday evening after the associations inspected the ongoing road repairs. The state government, which has been overseeing the repairs, is working with private contractors to expedite the process.
