AIZAWL, Oct 28: The Mizoram government will organize the state’s first-ever Territorial Army (TA) recruitment rally from November 15 to 25 at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Aizawl. The event will be jointly conducted by the Mizoram government and the 166 Assam Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army – Home & Hearth).

Addressing a press conference, Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) legislator and Lt. Col. Clement Lalhmingthanga announced that 144 general duty posts will be filled during the rally, with nine positions reserved for women to encourage their participation in the armed forces.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had earlier approved the Mizoram government’s proposal to raise a Territorial Army battalion aimed at combating drug smuggling, cross-border trafficking, and related crimes in the region.

According to senior Home Department officials, selected recruits will undergo nine months of intensive training at the Assam Regimental Centre in Shillong before being deployed across Mizoram, with particular emphasis on sensitive border regions.
