SENAPATI, Jan 6: Krouchi United of Prou Zhahmai (Lakhamai) on Tuesday organised the Late P.S. Mosounii Memorial Trophy at Lakhamai village ground, with MLA of 47 Karong Assembly Constituency, Kumo Sha, gracing the inaugural session as chief guest and former ADC member of Senapati district, KH. Sapunii, attending as guest of honour.
Addressing the gathering, Kumo Sha encouraged sports lovers and youth to seize sporting opportunities for future prospects and to strive for excellence at national and international levels. He emphasised that sports should not be viewed merely as a form of entertainment or a means to win trophies, but as a potential career path. The MLA also urged young players to uphold sportsmanship, set positive examples, and aim higher in their pursuits.
Guest of honour KH. Sapunii, in his address, highlighted that the true importance of sports lies not only in winning matches but also in fostering unity and cooperation among participants. He advised players to strive with dignity and to work hard to achieve success in every field they choose.
The five-day Late P.S. Mosounii Memorial Trophy, featuring 19 men’s football clubs, 20 men’s volleyball clubs and 19 women’s volleyball clubs—all from Lakhamai village—will conclude on January 10. Earlier, the chief guest unveiled a commemorative monolith in memory of Late P.S. Mosounii.
The inaugural programme was conducted by P. Bunii Dumai and S. Hriizhonai. An invocation prayer was offered by the catechist of St. Dominic Catholic Church, Lakhamai, followed by a welcome address by Ng. Sebastian. The programme also featured a special item by B. Beveinai, greetings by village chairman T.D. Dahrii, and introduction and presentation by the secretary of the organising committee. A brief biodata of Late P.S. Mosounii was presented by Krouchi United, while an act of remembrance was led by Ng. David Sha, pastor of LBC. Rodha, wife of Late P.S. Mosounii, spoke on behalf of the bereaved family.
The oath-taking ceremony was administered by D. Manyahrii Sha, games and sports secretary, followed by a vote of thanks from the organising committee. The chief guest formally declared the matches open, and the programme concluded with a benediction prayer by Rev. Ng. Zeveikho, finance and development secretary, Chilivai Circle No. 1, PNBA.
The valedictory session on January 10 will be graced by L. Solomon MES, ZEO Senapati, as chief guest and Ng. Jonathan Sha, Assistant Inspector of Schools (ADC), Senapati, as guest of honour.
Late P.S. Mosounii passed away on October 20, 2025, at the age of 35, leaving behind his wife, two sons and a daughter.
