IMPHAL, April 19: Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita, engaged with the Indian diaspora in Malaysia on Saturday, highlighting their significant contributions to fostering stronger ties between India and Malaysia. During his interaction, Margherita especially acknowledged the Assamese and Manipuri communities in Malaysia, who share deep cultural and familial connections with his home state of Assam
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Margherita stated, “Interacted with the vibrant Indian community in Malaysia, including members of the Assamese and Manipuri diaspora. Their contributions to strengthening India-Malaysia ties are noteworthy. Always a pleasure to connect with our extended family abroad.”
As part of his diplomatic engagement, Margherita also met with YB Kulasegaran Murugeson, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) in Kuala Lumpur. Their discussions centered around enhancing bilateral cooperation in the realms of law and institutional reforms.
In addition to governmental meetings, the Minister connected with leaders of the Malaysian business community, including representatives from the Consortium of Indian Industries in Malaysia (CIIM) and the Malaysia-India Business Council (MIBC). These meetings emphasized the increasing economic collaboration and expanding business networks between the two nations.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that Margherita is heading the Indian delegation at the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Fair, being held from April 18–19 in Kuala Lumpur. His participation aligns with the ASEAN-India Tourism Professionals Exchange Programme 2025, underlining India’s commitment to deepening ties with ASEAN nations through tourism and cultural exchanges.
