Mount Everest College Senapati Celebrates XIII Commerce Day Focusing on Entrepreneurship

Senapati, August 27: Mount Everest College Senapati marked its XIII Commerce Day under the theme “Igniting Young Aspiring Entrepreneurs” on Wednesday at the college auditorium.

The event was organized by the Department of Commerce and featured eminent resource persons including Shylock S. Taishya, President of the Senapati Entrepreneurs Association (SEA) and former Software Engineer; Kibambe Felix, Proprietor of CMTV NEI & Times of Senapati and Longni John Tao, Chartered Accountant.

Addressing the gathering, Shylock Taishya emphasized that entrepreneurship is a journey of passion, persistence, and purpose. He encouraged students to explore opportunities in E-commerce, digital services, financial consultancy, agri-business, and craft products, emphasizing four types of entrepreneurship: small business, scalable startup, social, and corporate entrepreneurship.

Taishya also highlighted the difference between a businessman, who primarily seeks profit, and an entrepreneur, who creates jobs and innovative solutions. He encouraged students to generate unique ideas with societal impact.

Kibambe Felix, Proprietor of CMTV NEI & Times of Senapati, highlighted that aspiring entrepreneurs must be ready to tackle competition and challenges. He advised students against imitation, emphasizing the importance of market research, understanding the local environment, financial planning, and ethical practices. Felix also stressed that determination and positivity are key to entrepreneurial success, and that skills, creativity matter more than a degree certificate.

Longni John Tao, the first Chartered Accountant from the district, advised students to pursue entrepreneurship with passion and focus, think creatively, engage in skill-based training, and contribute to society responsibly. Tao reminded students that employability, practical skills, and social responsibility are crucial for success in any career path.

The programme also included a quiz competition, in which Asish Sharma and Chongneinem Misao won the first prize, Pawan Subba and Vahriinai secured the second prize, and Lhaiboineng Hangshing and Ningguangpou Pamei took the third prize.

The event was chaired by Douveine Diamond (5th semester), with the opening prayer led by Helen Masouni (Asst. Prof., Commerce), quiz conducted by Prakash Sharma (Asst. Prof., Commerce), welcome note delivered by Seiminlun Haokip (HoD, Commerce), vote of thanks by Christina B Ralishinai (5th semester), and closing prayer by Diana Maring (Asst. Prof., Commerce).

The event was also was attended by College President Dr. V. Alexander Pao, College Chaplain, faculty members, and students.
