IMPHAL, April 16 : The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has joined the nationwide protest called by the Indian National Congress, denouncing what it claims to be politically motivated actions by the Modi Government. The protest follows the recent seizure of National Herald assets and the filing of chargesheets against senior Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.

MPCC President K. Meghachandra sharply condemned the government’s move, describing the chargesheets as an act of political vendetta. The demonstration was staged in front of the Enforcement Directorate’s office in Imphal, where senior Congress figures, including former MP Dr. T. Meinya, ex-MLA Sharat Bhupenda, and other prominent party leaders, gathered to voice their discontent.

A suspended CLP Leader also expressed that the MPCC and its members firmly oppose what they characterized as the undemocratic conduct of the Modi Government. He asserted that all legal matters would be contested in the court of law.

In a circular, the MPCC echoed the All India Congress Committee’s (AICC) position by branding the government’s actions as “draconian” and a deliberate attempt to politically intimidate the opposition. The circular called upon Congress Legislature Party leaders, former legislators, and members of frontal organizations to actively join the protest.

This collective resistance reflects a broader sentiment among Congress representatives, who stress the need to defend truth, uphold democratic values, and confront what they describe as state tyranny.

Earlier, AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal had issued a statement condemning the government’s measures as a misuse of state power and a direct attack on democratic principles, urging Pradesh Congress Committees nationwide to organize protests at Enforcement Directorate offices and other Central Government offices across districts.
