IMPHAL, March 4: The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has called on the Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, to remove all political appointees, including the Advocate General of the Manipur High Court, following the imposition of President’s Rule in the state. This call for action comes amid heightened security concerns in the region, as Governor Bhalla chaired a high-level security review meeting at Raj Bhavan today to assess the law and order situation in the state.

Addressing at a press conference,Rabi Khan, Vice-Chairman of the MPCC Legal Department, urged the Governor to make fresh appointments for key political posts. He emphasized that despite the President’s Rule being imposed on February 13, 2025, several political appointees from the previous BJP-led government continue to hold office, including the Advocate General. Khan argued that the Advocate General, who was appointed under former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh’s leadership, should have resigned following the change in leadership, in line with Article 165 of the Indian Constitution.

The call for action on political appointments comes at a time when security officials, including Chief Secretary P.K. Singh, DGP Rajiv Singh, and military officers, participated in a high-level security review meeting chaired by Governor Bhalla. The meeting aimed to evaluate the ongoing law and order situation in the state and coordinate among security forces to maintain stability amidst the ongoing unrest and tensions in the region.
