Shillong, October 11: The Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MSCPCR) has called for a swift and time-bound investigation into two tragic cases where missing children were later found dead, sparking deep concern across the state.
Expressing shock over the incidents involving a seven-year-old boy from Nongrah in East Khasi Hills and a 13-year-old girl from Khyndewso in Ri-Bhoi, MSCPCR chairperson Agatha K. Sangma urged police to ensure that those responsible are swiftly brought to justice.
“It is imperative that those responsible are identified and brought to justice without delay,” Sangma said, while extending condolences and solidarity to the bereaved families.
The Commission noted with alarm the increasing number of missing children cases in Meghalaya, stressing the need for immediate and coordinated action. Sangma informed that the Model Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Tracing Missing or Kidnapped Children have already been submitted to the state government for urgent implementation to ensure timely and effective interventions.
Reaffirming its commitment to child safety, the MSCPCR stated it will continue to work closely with law enforcement agencies, government departments, and other stakeholders to prevent such tragedies and strengthen mechanisms for the protection and welfare of children across the state.
