Kohima, October 21 (NNN): The Global Naga Forum (GNF) said today that it “deeply appreciates the gesture of goodwill and understanding” expressed by several civil society organizations from across communities, including Meitei Leepun, United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF), Zomi Re Unification Organization (ZRO), and Kuki Tribal Union (KTU/NSCN), in welcoming the “historic” visit of Th Muivah, general secretary of National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM), to his native village Somdal after 52 years.

GNF also acknowledged and expressed “sincere” appreciation to the Government of India and the Manipur State Government for their “positive role” in facilitating this long awaited and “significant” visit.

In a statement issued to Newmai News Network today, GNF said, “This moment stands as a meaningful step towards mutual respect and understanding among all communities. It may be recalled that in 2010, the proposed visit of Mr. Muivah was met with resistance from both state authorities and certain Meitei and Kuki civil society organisations, leading to tragic events at Mao Gate where two young Mao Naga students lost their lives following police firing by Manipur commandos”.
