AIZAWL, Feb 1: A Myanmar national drug queen pin, Lalchhanmawii C. Mawii, was recaptured by the Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA) on January 29, 2025, after escaping from Aizawl’s Central Jail and Champhai District Jail on two separate occasions. Mawii, 44, originally from Khawmawi, Myanmar, first escaped from Central Jail Aizawl on November 30, 2023, along with two other female inmates. She had been convicted under the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act for the possession of 59.54 grams of heroin.
After her first escape, Mawii was apprehended along with another escapee, Lalruatsangi, in May 2024 and sent to Champhai District Jail. However, on December 18, 2024, she escaped once again, this time with another inmate, Vansuiemi Suinunfeli, also from Myanmar. A case under sections 262 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered for the second escape.
Mawii, an Under Trial Prisoner (UTP), has several cases registered against her, including multiple offenses under the NDPS Act for heroin possession. Her recapture was made possible due to the cooperative efforts of various agencies, including the Excise & Narcotics Department, CYMA, and groups from Myanmar, who worked tirelessly to apprehend the fugitive drug queen pin.
