SENAPATI, Dec 24: The Naga People’s Organization (NPO), has strongly condemned the violent incident on the night of December 22, 2024. The incident, which occurred at approximately 9:00 PM at the Gangiphai Kuki Check Post, saw SDSA leaders allegedly assaulted by Kuki volunteers in an act the NPO has labeled as “intolerable and unjustifiable.”

In a press release, the NPO stated that the attack on the SDSA executives was compounded by the vandalism of a vehicle bearing the SDSA nameplate, an emblem of the SDSA’s status representing the integrity and responsibilities of the student body.

The NPO unequivocally condemned the incident, calling it a “barbaric act” against a respected student body known for its leadership and commitment to community welfare. “This attack is not just an affront to the SDSA but also an insult to the principles of mutual understanding and cooperation that we, as a collective, strive to uphold,” the NPO declared.

The NPO expressed deep concern over the breach of Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) signed between the NPO and the Committee of Tribal Unity (CoTU). These agreements, designed to ensure peaceful coexistence and mutual respect, were undermined by the recent attack, according to NPO. The NPO questioned the commitment of certain Kuki groups to honor the spirit of these agreements, citing the assault as a serious violation of trust.

Despite the setback, the NPO reaffirmed its dedication to fostering harmony among all communities in the district. The NPO called on all stakeholders to reaffirm their commitment to peaceful coexistence and to take measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

“However, we must state in the strongest terms that if any untoward actions further occur due to the Kuki stakeholders’ failure to take responsibility for this assault, they will be held solely accountable for the consequences,” the statement read.

The NPO reiterated its resolve to stand against violence, intimidation, and disrespect toward any community or organization. “We will continue to advocate for justice and uphold the values that bind our communities together,” the release asserted.
