KOHIMA, March 5: The Sixth Session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) took place at the NLA Hall in Kohima, where six crucial bills were discussed and passed, focusing on governance reforms, taxation updates, and municipal improvements within the state.
Among the key bills approved was the Disqualification on Ground of Defection in Urban Local Bodies Bill, 2024, which aims to promote political stability and accountability at the local governance level. Another major bill, The Global Open University Nagaland (Second Amendment) Bill, 2024, introduced changes to streamline regulations in the state’s higher education sector.
Additionally, the Nagaland Goods and Services Tax (Ninth Amendment) Bill, 2024 was passed to align with national GST policies, while the Nagaland Municipal (Amendment) Bill, 2024 and Nagaland Road Safety Authority (Second Amendment) Bill, 2024 were approved to enhance urban governance and improve road safety measures across the state.
A significant move was also made with the introduction of the Nagaland Work-Charged and Casual Employees Regulation (First Amendment) Bill, 2024, designed to address issues related to contractual and casual employment in the state.
Throughout the session, legislators engaged in in-depth discussions on the bills, emphasizing the importance of these legislative amendments in improving the state’s administrative efficiency and public service delivery. The passage of these bills marks a notable step forward in strengthening the legislative frameworks of Nagaland.
