DIMAPUR, July 8: Nagaland is reeling under intense monsoon floods, with Dimapur district among the worst affected, prompting authorities to establish three major relief camps and conduct large-scale rescue operations.
The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) reported widespread and escalating damage across several districts due to relentless rainfall. In Dimapur, low-lying areas have been inundated, displacing residents and disrupting normal life.
In response, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Dimapur, has set up relief camps at BSNL Quarters in Walford, S.M. Colony, and Namgalong Colony to shelter flood victims. Over 844 individuals, including children, the elderly, the sick, persons with disabilities, and infants, have been rescued and relocated to these camps.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) deployed a team of 25 personnel, including trained divers, along with a rescue boat, to evacuate residents stranded in submerged homes and streets.
Floodwaters have entered multiple colonies in Dimapur, including SM Colony, Ragailong, Namgalong, Super Market, K Sachu, Ekhyoyan Village, Walford, and Model Colony in Purana Bazaar. Teams from Home Guards (HG), Civil Defence (CD), and SDRF are actively conducting rescue and relief efforts.
Similar scenes of flooding have been reported in Chümoukedima district, where areas like Tenyiphe, Chekiye, Virazouma, Singrijan, Khopanala, Sovima, and villages near the 173rd CRPF Camp have been affected. Torrential rain has also damaged public infrastructure across the region.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert and cooperate with emergency services as the rainfall continues.
