DIMAPUR, March 15: The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has raised concerns about the growing threat to the Constitution and the implementation of policies that conflict with the interests of citizens.
Speaking at the launch of the Congress membership drive in Dimapur on Saturday, NPCC working president C. Apok Jamir stressed the need to defend secularism and safeguard the values enshrined in the Constitution.
Jamir emphasized that certain policies over the past 14 years have been undermining the essence of India’s way of life and belief. He described Congress as the sole political party capable of upholding the Constitution and protecting the rights of citizens. “To ensure understanding, unity, and progress, it is the duty of every citizen to stand against a government that violates the principles of the Constitution,” he stated.
Clarifying that the membership drive was not just about increasing numbers, Jamir said it was part of a larger movement to raise awareness among citizens about the challenges facing the nation. He called for collective involvement to challenge oppression and work together for meaningful change.
In his address, Jamir also touched on the inclusive nature of religion, stating, “Hinduism is a tolerant faith that promotes love and peace, but a section of people is trying to create division and hatred in society.” He urged the people of Nagaland to use their democratic power and ensure that their representatives remain committed to their welfare.
Jamir pointed to the success of the people of Nagaland in the parliamentary elections, referring to the election of NPCC president and Lok Sabha MP S. Supongmeren Jamir as a representative truly dedicated to the welfare of the state.
The membership drive in Dimapur district will continue until March 22, with additional campaigns planned across other districts. This initiative underscores the Congress party’s commitment to addressing governance issues and uniting citizens to protect constitutional values.
