SENAPATI, May 24: In a significant joint operation, personnel from the 78 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Sechu Zubza Police on Friday seized 14.312 kilograms of suspected opium during a routine vehicle check on National Highway 29 near Peducha.
The narcotics were recovered from a Tata Winger vehicle en route from Senapati, Manipur, to Dimapur, Nagaland. Authorities reported that the vehicle was stopped as part of regular security checks when the driver, identified as Dharam Singh, a resident of Ludhiana, Punjab, attempted to flee the scene. After a brief 500-meter chase, Singh was successfully apprehended.
Upon searching his luggage, officials discovered several packets containing the suspected opium, along with ₹56,500 in cash. The entire recovery operation was conducted in the presence of a magistrate to ensure transparency and strict adherence to legal procedures.
Following the seizure, Dharam Singh was handed over to the Zubza Police Station (PS Zubza) for further investigation and necessary legal action.
