KOHIMA, Nov 20: Nagaland Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) S Supongmeren Jamir has called on the Government of India (GoI) to implement the agreements signed with Nagaland political groups “without any further delay.”
In a press release on Tuesday, Jamir highlighted the importance of the August 3, 2015 “Framework Agreement” with the NSCN (IM) and the November 17, 2017 “Agreed Position” signed with the Working Committee, Naga National Political Groups (WC, NNPGs).
Jamir, who also serves as the president of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), emphasized the longstanding significance of the Naga national struggle. He stated that Nagas are now at the “cusp of realizing the long-envisioned solution,” acknowledging the sacrifices made by Naga national workers over the years. He further stressed that it is crucial for the Naga people to “stand in truth” and ensure that the agreements are not undermined but used as the foundation to meet the aspirations of the Naga community.
While recognizing the efforts of past and present GoI administrations that facilitated the signing of these two historic agreements, Jamir underscored that the journey is far from over. “The arduous journey will come to a full circle only when the present Central Government honours the sanctity of these agreements by implementing them without any further delay,” he added.
The MP warned that delayed implementation could risk undermining the trust built over decades of negotiations. “It is imperative to respect the core principles and objectives laid out in these historic agreements and recognize the rights and identity of us Nagas,” he concluded, urging the GoI to act swiftly in fulfilling the commitments made to the Naga people.
