KOHIMA, April 15: The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Secretary of Nagaland, demanding the “immediate suspension” of IAS officer Reny Wilfred, pending investigation into charges of alleged sexual harassment of female employees.
In a letter to the state Chief Secretary on Tuesday, the federation expressed concern over the continued appointment of Wilfred, Joint Secretary of the Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN), to an office of responsibility despite ongoing investigations into allegations of sexual harassment filed against him by female employees under his authority.
“It is deeply troubling that Mr. Wilfred, who has reportedly exhibited a pattern of inappropriate behaviour, is allowed to continue in a position that enables further abuse of power. This sends a dangerous message to both survivors of workplace harassment and the public at large—that institutional protection takes precedence over accountability,” the federation said.
The NSF also maintained that such an approach undermines the morale of government employees, particularly women, and erodes public faith in the administration’s credibility.
“The NSF reiterates that we are not dealing with an isolated lapse in judgment, but with an alleged repeat offender whose continued tenure in office puts the integrity of public service at risk.
“Therefore, we demand the immediate suspension of Mr. Reny Wilfred, IAS, from holding any office of responsibility until the completion and public release of the final investigation report,” the letter stated.
Additionally, the students also cautioned against any attempt by individuals or entities to shield or influence the outcome of the investigation, affirming that any such interference will be met with strong opposition from the federation and the Naga public.
“In the interest of justice, institutional integrity, and the safety of all employees in public offices, we urge your office to take immediate and decisive action,” the letter added.
