Kohima, September 8: In a major breakthrough, Nagaland Police have busted an organised sex trafficking racket operating in Kohima, rescuing a minor girl and arresting nine individuals, including the key masterminds.
The crackdown followed a suo motu FIR registered by the Kohima Women Police Station, based on a missing person complaint. Acting swiftly, police traced the missing minor to a hotel in Kohima on August 30. She was rescued safely and later provided medical assistance and counselling.
According to police officials, the survivor revealed during her statement that she had been coerced into sex work and sexually exploited by multiple individuals. Based on her testimony, the prime accused was arrested and confessed to working both as a sex worker and a pimp.
Further investigation revealed that the accused was operating under the main trafficker, who allegedly lured vulnerable women and arranged clients, primarily from Guwahati and Shillong.
“We launched the operation after receiving intelligence inputs. All nine accused have been arrested and remanded to judicial custody following police interrogation,” a senior police official confirmed.
