Kohima, September 5: The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has refuted recent reports claiming an imminent merger with the Naga People’s Front (NPF) under the ‘Cock’ symbol.
In a statement issued on Friday, the NDPP clarified that the idea of a merger was proposed only on September 2, 2025, and has yet to be deliberated by the party’s decision-making body.
The NDPP asserted that no official decision has been made regarding the merger, contrary to media reports suggesting that the process was already underway. “The NDPP has not cleared the decks to effect the merger as reported,” the statement read.
The party emphasized its commitment to the democratic process, noting that as a registered political entity under the Election Commission of India, it is governed by its constitution. A meeting of the Central Executive Board is scheduled soon, where the proposal will be discussed in a formal and democratic manner.
In light of the circulating speculation, the NDPP urged both the public and media to await an official decision before drawing any conclusions. The clarification comes amid growing political buzz about potential alliances and mergers in the state.
