IMPHAL, Nov 18: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken control of three critical cases related to the recent surge of violence in Manipur, which has resulted in significant loss of life and disruption of public order. The cases were transferred from the Manipur Police to the NIA following a directive issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

The violence in Manipur, which has escalated in recent months, has claimed numerous lives and caused heightened social unrest. Among the cases now under NIA investigation is a deadly gun battle in Jiribam district between the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and militants, which left at least 10 militants dead.

Another case involves the kidnapping and subsequent killing of six individuals whose bodies were discovered after their abduction in Jiribam. The NIA has registered a separate case to investigate this heinous crime.

In its statement on November 16, the MHA highlighted the need for a thorough and effective investigation by a central agency to address the complexities of these cases. The ministry emphasized the importance of restoring law and order in the state and instructed security forces to take strict action against individuals or groups involved in disruptive activities.

To stabilize the situation, the MHA has deployed an additional 2,000 personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) to Manipur, with the possibility of further reinforcements if required.

The ministry has also called for public cooperation, urging residents to avoid falling prey to rumors and assist security forces in their efforts to restore normalcy. The central government’s intervention underscores its commitment to addressing the ongoing unrest in the northeastern state and ensuring peace and stability.
