SENAPATI, Oct 3:   The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Northeast India, forecasting significant rainfall in the days ahead.

The IMD’s Thursday report highlighted that light to moderate rainfall is expected to occur widely across the region this week. Isolated instances of heavy to very heavy rainfall are predicted for Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on October 3 and 4.

Additionally, widespread light to moderate rain is anticipated over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim in the next two days, with scattered rainfall expected in other areas throughout the week.

The forecast is influenced by a cyclonic circulation over southeast Bangladesh and a trough extending to the north Andaman Sea. A low-pressure system is also expected to develop over the North Bay of Bengal and nearby regions around October 4, which may contribute to the heavy rainfall in Northeast.
