AGARTALA, Nov 24: The Tipra Motha Party (TMP) is gearing up for a major show of strength as it prepares to host a mass rally at Swami Vivekananda Maidan in Agartala on November 27, with several prominent Northeast leaders set to participate.
TMP founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma announced that dignitaries including Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, Mmhonlumo Kikhon, Daniel Langthasa, and other regional leaders are expected to attend. He said the gathering aims to consolidate support for the emerging “One North East” platform — a pan-regional initiative seeking unified political advocacy for indigenous rights, land protection, and identity issues across the Northeast.
Debbarma emphasized that collective representation holds greater weight in Delhi than fragmented appeals. “The issues are the same, but the voices are scattered. Delhi doesn’t have the time to listen when everyone speaks separately,” he said, adding that the new front is not a merger of parties, but a coordinated effort to amplify the region’s concerns.
The “One North East” initiative, jointly championed by Conrad Sangma and Pradyot Debbarma, has gained significant traction as leaders express interest in shaping a shared policy framework benefiting all northeastern states.
The TMP chief also reiterated his appeal to the Union Education Minister to allow Roman script for Kokborok in both TBSE and CBSE examinations — a longstanding demand of the indigenous Kokborok-speaking community.
