Kohima, October 14: The Naga People’s Front (NPF) has “officially” joined the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) Government of Nagaland with effect from today.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by Clause 10 of Article V of the party’s constitution, the president of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) hereby promulgates this ordinance to the effect that the NPF shall officially join the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) government under the leadership of Dr. Neiphiu Rio, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Nagaland”, an office memorandum issued by Achumbemo Kikon, who is MLA and also secretary general of the NPF, said today. “This ordinance comes into effect from the forenoon of October 14, 2025”, the office memorandum added.

This latest development came amid the process of the merger of the NPF and the ruling NDPP in Nagaland. Few days ago, Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu, who is leader of the NPF Legislature Party, had stated that the proposed merger of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) and the Nationalist Democratic People’s Party (NDPP) is becoming a reality. He had this during the NPF’s “special prayer programme” held on October 10 at its central office in Kohima.

It can also be mentioned here that, the Central Executive Council (CEC) of the Naga People’s Front (NPF), in a meeting held on September 6, 2025, in Kohima, had resolved to “make a formal and special appeal” to Chief Minister of Nagaland, Dr. Neiphiu Rio, to rejoin the NPF and assume leadership of the party in the greater interest of the party and the Naga people.

That NPF CEC meeting had said that Dr. Neiphiu Rio, “a strong regionalist and a senior member of the NPF”, joined the party in 1974 as Youth President of Kohima Division and later served as Youth Wing President of the party during the erstwhile UDF days. “The NPF continues to consider him (Rio) an integral part of the party, and his return to the NPF – his original political platform would send a positive message to the general public”, the CEC of the NPF had added.
