Tura, Sept 3: Leaders of the National People’s Party (NPP) from Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, and Nagaland gathered in Tura for the party’s National Committee (NC) meeting and Annual General Meeting (AGM), reflecting on regional development and the political landscape of Northeast India.
The meeting approved financial reports and deliberated on key issues affecting the region, emphasizing unity, empowerment, and sustainable progress. Marking 13 years since its founding, the NPP reiterated its commitment to fostering collective development and addressing shared challenges across the Northeast.
Earlier in the week, thousands of supporters had gathered at Williamnagar in East Garo Hills, Meghalaya, to commemorate the 78th birth anniversary of former Lok Sabha Speaker and party founder Purno Agitok Sangma, coinciding with the 13th foundation day of the party.
During the gathering, over 300 new members from various political parties were felicitated for joining the NPP. Additionally, athletes from East Garo Hills received the PA Sangma Achievers’ Award, and senior associates of the late leader, including Soradini K Sangma, were honoured for their contributions.
The Tura meeting highlighted the party’s ongoing focus on regional cohesion, political empowerment, and progress across the Northeastern states, reinforcing NPP’s vision for a united and prosperous region.
